Sibal exhorts NERIST graduates to be agents of change

Governor pleads for grant and aid

ITANAGAR, Oct 12: The 3rd Convocation of North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) was held at NERIST Campus, Nirjuli today.

Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister for Human Resource Development Kapil Sibal congratulated the graduates and expressed his confidence that they will play their roles and contribute in making the world a better place. He said that his expectations from the graduates are of a very high order, not only as professionals but also as intelligent and wish that they will now serve.

Exhorting them to be agents of change, the minister advised them not to let the fire in the belly subside. Passion, he said, makes difference between an average and an outstanding performer. He advised them to remember that the degrees will help them to make a living but it is their education that will help them to find a life. And, both will help them to make a difference in the lives of others.

The Union Minister was pleased to note the large percentage of girls amongst the toppers. He said that large numbers of girls graduating in mechanical and civil engineering shows that mindset of the people has changed and it is a matter of great pride.

Assuring whatever possible help to NERIST, the HRD Minister appreciated the institute for its dovetailing academic programmes.

In his convocation address, Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, General (Retd) JJ Singh, who is the President of NERIST Society, advised those who have received their degrees to remember that individual success, however desirable and coveted, is not enough by itself. They have to be socially useful, innovative and have multi-disciplinary approach to make themselves, their families and State and Country proud. He exhorted the recipients to be the source of motivation and inspiration for their peers and juniors, their community and society.

The NERIST Society President informed that after attaining the status of a ‘deemed to be university’ in 2005, NERIST has added another feather on its cap by introducing master’s programme in all branches of engineering and technology. It is the first institute in the State of Arunachal Pradesh to start a full time master’s programme in Management and doctoral programmes in Engineering, Technology, Basic Sciences, Applied Science, Humanities, Social Sciences and Management respectively. He added that NERIST is committed to comply with the requirements and continually improve the effectiveness of the quality management systems.  It is also committed for the personality development of the students for their successful and bright future.

The Governor, who has been attending every annual meetings and activities of the premiere technical institute in the last five years, said that there have been considerable gaps in the resources required for desired infrastructure creation and those available. He urged upon the Union Minister of Human Resource Development to provide the necessary impetus required in term of grants and aids to the institute. He expressed his hope that after the visit by the Union HRD Minister, the Ministry will ensure that all the requirements of the Institute under 12th Five Year plan are met.

Madan Prasad Bezbaruah, Chairman, Board of Management, NERIST, in his address said that every person must be alive to the winds of blowing across. They should open up their minds to imbibe the best that the world has to offer, keeping no doubt that pride in their local distinctiveness. If they do not, time and development will pass by them. The NERIST Board of Management, chairman, while stating that as time passes, along with achievements come the problems of ageing of infrastructure. He emphasized that NERIST needs special attention so that the much needed academic excellence and research are not compromised by poor and outdated facilities.

Earlier, NERIST Director Prof. Dipankar Pal highlighted on the academic and research activities of the institute. The Institute has started three new M. Tech programmes in VLSI, Computer Science & Engineering and in Thermo Fluid Engineering from academic year of 2012-13. The Director added that the Institute has recently gone into collaboration with the American University of Sharjah, UAE, on research, project-supervision, research-supervision, faculty and student exchange and issues of bilateral interest. This is for the first time that NERIST has been in collaboration with a foreign university of repute.

Stating few of major achievements of the institute, the NERIST Director informed that Dr. L. B. Singha, from Department of Forestry received DBT Overseas Fellowship to work at the International Laboratory in the Dept. of Biology of Concordia University, Canada, while Dr. Aditi Bhardra from Dept. of Agriculture Engineering has received Indo-US Research Fellowship to do post-doctoral research in US. Dr. K. S. Devangan has gone to Canada for post-doctoral research and Dr. H. S. Yadav has been selected to do post-doctoral research in Hungary by INSA under its exchange programme. He added that he himself was invited as a part of the Indian delegation to visit the Qingdao Ocean University, China for the 3rd orientation programme under bilateral exchange with RGIIM Shillong.

Sibal cancels NIT visit due to time constraint

ITANAGAR, Oct 12: Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Communication & Information Technology,  Kapil Sibal who was to lay the foundation stone of permanent campus of National Institute of Technology (NIT) at Jote near here today could not materialize owing to bad weather and time constraint. The Union Minister had attended the convocation ceremony at NERIST earlier this afternoon and was supposed to lay the foundation stone of the permanent NIT campus at Jote after NERIST programme.

Sibal conveyed his wishes and inconvenience to the Chief Minister who in turn informed the gathering that due to unavoidable circumstance the union minister could not materialize the Jote visit. Tuki, however, convinced the people that the Union Minister had assured to revisit the state and the area to lay the foundation stone of NIT during the winters when weather would be suitable.

 Informing the gathering about a memorandum already been submitted to the union minister on the day, CM said that his government has been giving top priority to the education sector. Shortage of adequate infrastructures like teachers quarters, barracks in remote and backward border blocks, development of infrastructure at Government Degree Colleges and Polytechnics, increase in the numbers of seats allotted to the state in central medical and Engineering Colleges, sanctioning of at least one medical college and few engineering colleges in the state, amendment in Rajiv Gandhi University Act, change in funding pattern for setting up of model colleges, central support for setting up of Arunachal Pradesh State University at Pasighat, development of infrastructure of primary, secondary and higher secondary schools in the state were few points incorporated in the memorandum addressed to the union minister.  CM consoled the gathering saying we will have a better programme next time and that too in bigger scale. Govt ready to promote agro-based industry: Sena

ITANAGAR, Oct 12: Setong Sena, Minister for Agriculture, Horticulture, Veterinary and Dairy Development visited the recently set up ginger oleoresin extraction plant of Kryptokroma firm at Chandan Nagar Industrial Estate in the capital complex.

The Minister had a firsthand experience of oleo resin production from fresh ginger. He interacted with Kiran Mehta of Kryptokroma firm and understood different aspects of ginger oleoresin production and use of oleoresin in different applications.

Sena was impressed with the Plant and encouraged setting up of more such units in ginger producing areas of Arunachal Pradesh like Pasighat area in Siang Valley and Roing area in Lower Dibang Valley to provide a viable market for the ginger farmers. He expressed that the greatest challenge in agriculture sector is in marketing. Therefore, setting up of ginger oleoresin extraction plant, in which ginger is the raw material, will provide a viable market for the ginger farmers of the two areas, he said adding that the State Government will give all support in creation of linkage between the farmers and the entrepreneurs.

“This kind of initiatives from entrepreneurs is always welcome and supported by the State Government in order to realize the vision of the Chief Minister Nabam Tuki in creating employment opportunities for the youth of Arunachal Pradesh in the agriculture and allied sectors,” He opined. He stated that the Government of Arunachal Pradesh will extend all kind cooperation and support under the industrial policy of the State Government to promote more agro based enterprises to boost the rural economy of the State.

MNS & YNMA demand SIT probe into Haku Tatak case

ITANAGAR, Oct 12: The members of Mascot Network Society and Youth Network Movement of Arunachal have expressed their angst over the sluggish progress and reluctant attitude of police department towards Haku Tatak’s attempt to murder case.

Haku was brutally beaten up in between Itanagar - Naharlagun 6 month ago and is still battling for life at a private hospital. The members of MNS and YNMA demand the state government, particularly the Home department to set up a Special Investigating Team to handle this case in a more mature and appropriate way rather than giving a mere assurance. The members have also requested the Chief Minister who is also in charge of Home department to increase facilities for the man in uniform so that investigation process is not hampered because of the needs of equipments. The members have also prayed for early recovery of Haku Tatak and Tongam Rina, both are still going medical treatment for life threatening injuries. And the irony is that in both the cases the culprit has not been apprehended yet and till today no one knows who carried out such barbaric act. Therefore, the members of MNS and YNMA once again request the civil society to kindly help the police department in nabbing the culprit at the earliest, if they have any information or any clue regarding this case.

 

 

Surender Kumar takes  charge of SP Capital

ITANAGAR, Oct 12:  Surender Kumar, a 2007 batch IPS officer has assumed the officer of Superintendent of Police, Capital Complex. Previously Kumar was posted as SP Telecom, police headquarter, Itanagar. He takes over the mantle from Hibu Tamang who has been posted as SP special branch.

Kumar takes over as SP capital at a time when state capital is witnessing serious law and order problem. Citizens have also questioned the capability of capital police for their inability to solve cases like attack on Haku Tatak, shooting of Tongam Rina, September 11 assault on two employees of Arunachal Times.  

While talking to this daily over phone, new SP laid out his priorities. “I will give my top priority to improve law and order situation in capital. The crime graph has to come down and people should feel safe. My other priorities will be to assist traffic police to ensure that traffic scenario improves in state capital. I need support of entire capital citizens in this regard,” said Kumar. The assuming of office by young IPS Officer Surender Kumar will surely send expectation high among law abiding citizens of capital.

Already young IAS officer Sanjay Goel, the capital complex deputy commissioner, along with his dedicated team of officers has taken up crusade against illegal encroachers in the state capital and has won applause from every section of society.

With the teaming up of two young IAS and IPS officers, the citizens is hoping that finally rule of law will prevail in the lawless “state capital”. But the big question is whether state government and politicians will let them work freely without the fear of being transferred.

 

 

Gagur Nalla blocked; Ruksin villages face water shortage

RUKSIN, Oct 12: Gagur Minor Irrigation Channel, the main water sources for three Ruksin villages-Niglok, Ngorlung and Linka has damaged during recent flood, resulting in acute shortage of drinking water in the villages.

The channel, which was supplying drinking water from Sille river, flows down through Ledum hill and Niglok village, is indispensable for those villagers as water to their paddy fields also is supplied through this channel. The channel is blocked by heavy sediment during the flood.

Surging water of the river washed away the pin-walls and heavy sediment blocked the entry pint. Moreover, strong current of the river also broke the protective walls into pieces and buried it down.

The 500-mt-long Gagur Nall, which was constructed in 2000 by then Pasighat-West MLA’s LAD fund, was designed to push river water into the channel. As such, it was regularly maintained by the local farmers.

The farmers said that the knee-deep silt in the bed and damaged wall could only be possible through an excavator and roller which they can not afford. The farmers are looking at their local MLA for restorative measure from the government’s end.

Observing the damage of Gagur MIC and its consequent affect in water supply, Ruksin Anchal chairperson Ojing Aje has urged the authority to initiate early restoration of the important channel.

 

 

Hepatitis vaccine reaches rural masses

Aalo, Oct 12: All together 1162 persons, including 421 children and 1241 adults were administered first dose of Hepatitis B vaccination in two separate camps held at Yomcha and Liromoba on October 10 and 11.

The doctors and nurses on duty had to perform round-the-clock to administer vaccination both at Yomcha and Liromoba.

The doctors, namely Sauravh Chaudhury Radiologist, Dr. Bhaskar from Ayur Sundur Guwahati, Dr. Moli Riba, DFWO, Dr. Goter Doke, Gynecologist, Dr. Nitum Yomcha Dentist, Dr. Gemir Rida Ayurvedic, Dr. Paleng, Medical Officer, Dr. Derin Likar, MO, Youth Congress leaders, Panchayat leaders, senior citizens and students attended the camp.

The vaccines were sponsored by Mrs and Mr Gamde and Sokjar Gamlin.

The camps were organized under the initiative of West Siang Zilla Parishad Chairperson Jarsa Gamlin

People with cleft lips were also identified and registrations were done for free operation at Guwahati. DIPRO

 

 

‘ASHAs are the backbone of NRHM’

ITANAGAR, Oct 12: Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) are the backbone of National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), opined Joint Director of Health Services Dr. T Talo.

Describing the crucial role played by ASHAs in successful implementation of the rural health mission at an ASHA Review cum Workshop for Building of capacity of ARC members at Seminar Hall, Arunachal State Hospital, Naharlagun today, Dr. Taloh said that if ASHAs do not know their role, work cannot be implemented.

In order to motivate the ASHAs, he highlighted the need to streamline the incentive package of ASHAs, which he said was being worked.

Stating that DCM’s have a vital role to play in motivating the ASHAs, he advised them to act pro-actively by implementing the activities and sending the reports on time.

“The DCM’s need to ensure that ASHA facilitators and ASHAs are performing their work and also need to mobilize the community during vaccination days, VHND’s and other programmes, he said. Non-performing ASHA should be terminated and replaced by a performing villager, he suggested.

Dr. D. Padung, Nodal Officer (NRHM) highlighted the various Community Processes in the state of Arunachal Pradesh through power point presentation. Stating ASHA as one of the most innovative community process, he informed that 3757 ASHAs have been recruited till September, 2012 against the target of 3862.

Showing the no. of functional VHSC’s in the state, he asked the districts to ensure to have an account in order to be able to receive VHSC fund.

The ASHAs trained on Module 1-5 and 6-7 and status of ASHA and ASHA Facilitator Training were shared by him.

The workshop organized by State NRHM, Naharlagun was also attended by Devajit Bora, Consultant RRC-NE, District Community Mobilizer, District Data Assistants, senior officers and staff of the Mission Directorate.

 

 

Experts conduct artefacts preservation workshop

ITANAGAR, Oct 12: A four-member team of experts comprising Museologist, Archivist, Conservator and Chemist from Directorate of Research Chongkham organized training cum chemical treatment workshop on preservation, conservation of cultural artefacts/ antique specimens and manuscripts housed in the Tai-Khampti Shingpho Museum cum Research Centre, Chongkham from October 3 to 8 last.

The team led by Dr. SK Ghosh, Curator of JN State Museum accompanied by Kime Ampi, Archival Assistant, State Archives and Tage Tabin, Keeper cum Chemist of Dist. Museum Ziro and Anil Dutta, Laboratory Assistant of JN State Museum acted as resource persons in the training cum workshop.

The workshop was held mainly on preservation and protection of the artefacts made of copper, brass, silver, wood, cane, iron, bamboo etc. and also huge number of manuscripts made of handmade paper.

The participants were inquisitive to derive the benefits from this Training cum workshop organized by Research Department.  Arunachal Pali Vidyapith Society Personnel and Museum staff participated in this programme and they were practically taught the application of chemicals, modern equipments and techniques so that they could continue in future with the acquired techniques for preservation and protection of the rare material cultural heritage of the Museum and Viharas.

For better awareness to preserve the cultural artefacts local administrators were also interacted during the workshop.

Organizing such workshop for social cause is now being undertaken as regular activities of the department besides discharging the normal works.

The mission of the workshop was for scientific treatment of artefacts with curative and preventive measures in order to protect the artefacts against deteriorating agents and also to impart training to the staff associated with the museum, Viharas and the persons who have been associated with the work of preservation and promotion of material cultural heritage of the society of the area.

It also aimed at creating awareness and building capacity of the NGO activists, who would able to carry out the activities themselves in future for the cause of preservation and protection of unique artefacts and manuscripts housed in their institutions and also in the private collections. It is pertinent to mention that in recent past Research Department had also conducted similar activity at Tawang Monastic Museum and Archives.

 

 

Communication along Mebo-Dola road remains snap

MEBO, Oct 12: Though the sub-divisional administration and the block NCP leaders are claiming that the road communication along Mebo-Dola has been restored, the fact remains that the road communication between Borguly and Mebo headquarters is still cut off causing hardship to the people of entire lower parts of the sub-division. The breached portion at Ngopok Korong between Kiyit and Borguli villages is yet to be plugged.

The PWD with the help of the local people today plugged the breached portion at Kadang River, but it would take enough time to repair the washed away portion at Ngopok Korong.

The people can neither go to Mebo nor Pasighat due to disruption in road link at Ngopok for which they have been facing hardship to collect food items and other essential commodities. The villagers of Borguli, Serum, Kongkul and Namsing area have to cross the river point on a private-made Bamoo bridge on daily payment basis.

The same problem is also faced by the commuters at Tatsing River between Borguly and Serum.

It is pertaining to mention here that the last wave of flood this year has breached the Mebo-Dola road at several places causing total disruption of road communication in the area. This daily covered a series of news on the disastrous situation, which evoked massive reaction among the government officials as well as political leaders, including local MLA Ralom Borang.

The flood-hit people said the claim made by the authority regarding relief and rehabilitation measures is a farce only. Some sane citizens of Borguly and Serum villages alleged that MLA Borang has not yet entered their villages till date to take stock of the situation.

“In spite of the fact that the villagers of Kongkul, Namsing and greater Mer-Gadum areas are suffering a lot due to disruption of road link, the local MLA has not paid any attention towards their grievances. Recurring floods hit hard the economy of people of Mebo sub division by collapsing several hectares of standing crops. The the local MLA has not yet initiated relief anf rehabilitation measures for the flood-affected families, lamented aggrieved Yung Tayeng, an Anchal Somiti Member of Borguly.

 

 

Cooperation and unity key to  development: Saaya

Joram, Oct 12:  “ United we stand, divided we fall. All the Panchayat segments need to be united for the smooth implementation of developmental activities in the area,” said  Likha Saaya, Parliamentary Secretary,  Agriculture while addressing a developmental meeting attended by the PRI members of Yachuli Assembly constituency, public and HoDs of Lower Subansiri district at Joram today.

Cooperation is the key to all round development of the society and it is the need of the hour that we forget our political differences and work hand in hand for the upliftment of the society, he added.

Terming Phu-Joram, a small village around 12 kms from the district headquarters as a blessed place as it has produced many officers and intellectuals; he urged the younger generation to carry on the trend and become valuable assets for the village and the society as a whole.

While responding to the three-point memorandum submitted by the village representatives, he assured to develop a football ground and a community hall for recreation purposes. He also assured to construct the link road to the village at the earliest.

He also appealed to all the villagers to avail maximum benefit from existing agriculture, horticulture and fishery programs and stressed on adopting tourism avenues for livelihood.  He assured full cooperation in agriculture allied schemes and invited innovative and dedicated minds to help the villagers.

He also suggested the people of the constituency not to organize development meetings which involve lots money, time and energy rather he advised them to adopt “go to people” pattern as started in Yazali Zilla, where every household is visited. This directly connects the people to their elected leader, he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Taru Talo stressed on peaceful co-existence and implored the villagers not to be divided by politics and stay united as a family. He also requested the villagers to cooperate with the Trans highway construction authorities and let the engineers carry out the work as per the technical survey and assessments. The construction of this highway will speed up the development activities in the district, he added.

ADC, Yachuli T. Peyang  and Likha Teki, EE(PHE) also spoke on the occasion. A colorful display of cultural items and a volleyball match between the Hods, Lower Subansiri Dist and the villagers was also played on the occasion.

Administrative camp brings succor to Deomali public

KHONSA, Oct 12:  A total of 22 motor cycles and 4 LMVs were registered and 90 driving licenses issued during an administration camp at Deomali today.

Altogether 155 ST certificates, 131 inner line permit (ILP), both general and govt, and 12 Identity cards were issued in the camp and Rs 1.50 lakh revenue was earned.  A medical camp was also held.

Inaugurating the camp, Parliamentary Secretary for Sports and Youth Affairs Wangki Lowang, appreciated Tirap Deputy Commissioner Dr. Sachin Shinde for bringing the administration to the doorsteps of the people and asked the people to take maximum benefit out of it.

Dr. Shinde, who was the main force and inspiration behind the administration camp, said that people from Deomali have come often to Khonsa to get various certificates spending money and wasting time adding that efforts were made to ensure that the Deomali people get this certificate at Deomali itself. He said that the stalls put up were very beneficial for the people and urged the people to visit the stalls to gather information. The DC further asked the people to adopt rain water harvesting and also threw light on Tirap District Career Counseling Cell.

Earlier, SDO G Singpho in his welcome address threw light on the objective of the camp being held for the first time adding that it had benefitted the people immensely.

All the government departments, including some Self Help Groups put up stalls which attracted many visitors.  The Deomali Forest Division distributed saplings free of cost.

Tirap SP Vikramjit Singh, HoDs, Panchayat leaders and public attended the camp. The people who had never been exposed to such administrative camp were overjoyed and profusely thanked the district administration

Training programme on Library Automation

Itanagar Oct 12:  The department of Public Library, Itanagar is organizing 2days training programme on Library Automation at the State Library Itanagar in collaboration with Central Reference Library, Kolkata here today.

Director State Public Library, J. Borang while welcoming the participants and the resource persons thanked Dr Ramachandran Librarian in charge Central Reference Library Kolkata in his all efforts to make the state library more efficient and techno friendly.

Realising the need for speed  and growing advancement in information technology  and science, Borang felt the need for such training programmes to be imparted to his staff so that they are equipped with better computer knowledge. This knowledge will also help them to keep a record of the all the important documents to be preserved.

Dr Ramachandra, who is Librarian in Charge in Central Reference Library, highlighted the insight and importance of the library automation. He said, Library automation makes it easier for a library to know the status of its resources at any given moment. The process also helps to make better use of existing library services and staff, he said and appealed to the participants to take full advantage of the training programme so that they can serve the public better.

Dr K K Pandey Librarian Reference Library and Dr. M Maltesh Dy. Librarian RGU also spoke on the occasion about their experiences and achievements in the field.

Not many years ago, libraries used card catalogs, typewriters, and manually assigned due dates. Library automation, an up-to-date method to help libraries and library patrons to effectively use library resources, is now streamlined because of computers and software. DIPR

 

 

Seminar on ‘Popular Fiction: Reflection on society’

ITANAGAR, Oct 12: The Department of English, Saint Claret College, Ziro, organised the annual departmental seminar on the topic, “Popular Fiction: Reflection on society.”

Speaking on the occasion as the resource person, Nending Ommo, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Rangfrah Govt. College, Changlang highlighted the emerging genre of popular fiction which was making inroads to the realm of serious academics. He urged the students to develop the habit of pleasure reading, especially when it came to popular fiction, but he also asked them not to neglect the beauty of the popular techniques employed in the novels which has given us popular characters like James Bond, Superman, Sherlock Holmes, Poirot, and Harry Potter.

In his concluding remarks Ommo exhorted and encouraged the students to participate in such seminars to explore new knowledge and appreciated the endeavours of the management and the department of English for taking up such departmental activities which is training the students for a better tomorrow.

 

 

ATMA  conducts training prog for farmers

Aalo, Oct 12:  A day-long district level Agricultural Technology Management Agency’s reformation training programme on “Cultivation Practices of Potato and Cole Crops” was held at Pessing.

The programme was organized by the District Agriculture Officer cum Project Director, ATMA, West Siang District.

Altogether 105 farmers from Pessing, Jomlo Mongku and Pankeng villages have benefited from this training.

Jarny Yomcha, ADO and Jumdo Jini, ADO ATMA dwelt at length on cultivation practices of potato and its pests and disease management respectively while Nitum Riba, ADO (Hq) had a detail discussion on cultivation practices of various cole crops, theirs pests and disease control methods with power point presentation.

In the interactive session with farmers, the officers apprised the farmers about the marketing potentialities and economic prospectively of winter vegetable crops. To augment their production, the farmers were advised to adopt large scale commercial cultivation of such crops.

In a bid to boost their morale the team had also assured the farmers to impart technical guidance as and when sought. The team also urged the farmers to practice organic farming and highlighted the ill effects due to large scale use of chemical fertilizers.

The participating farmers were distributed seeds of winter vegetable crops. Tagang Jerang, ADO Rumgong extended gratitude to one and all for making the programme a successful one. DIPRO

 

 

Inservice teachers training at Khimiyang

ITANAGAR, Oct 12:  Aimed at improving the management of schools, a two days In-service teachers training of Khimiyang EAC Hq was held at Khimiyang under Changlang district on October 9 and 10.

The training was attended by the all the Headmasters and teacher in-charge of Khmiyang.

Speaking on the inaugural session, CO and EAC in charge Bamin Tarang urged the teachers to give their best to impart quality education despite serving in trying conditions. Discussing on the requirement of furniture and inventories he assured to provide the same but on the condition that Headmasters and Teacher in-charge must ensure the safekeeping of the same with proper record.

While urging the teachers to obtain proper leave from the authority before leaving their respective station, Tarang said that a project of Village Library will be commissioned soon under the initiative of DC Changlang inculcate reading habit among the students.

Deputy Director of School Education (DDSE) N Yirang motivated the teachers to treat the students as young saplings who need the utmost care and constant guidance of the teachers. He said that teachers being the role model of the society should lead an exemplary life for the students to follow.

The in-service training on Account Management, Maintenance of School record, IED,CCE MDM etc were imparted by K Mossang, Coordinator SSA, S Sunkho, CRC, B Singh, Lecturer Diet, PP Kandpal, BEO,  N Chetry, J/T, J M Mahanta, Acct SSA and M Thapa CRC. The program was co-ordinated by C Tesai, BEO Khimiyang.

 

 

East Kameng DC wants completion of all bridge projects within this winter

SEPPA.  Oct 12: Expressing concern over inordinate delay in completion of Hari Bridge, East Kameng Deputy Commissioner Tope Bam has assured to take up the matter with Border Roads Organization (BRO) to complete the all important bridges within this winter.

Chairing the 8th District Level Monitoring Committee Meeting to review the physical and financial progress of various projects under SPA, NEC, NLCPR, PM Packages etc. for the year 2010-2011-12 and the action plan of the last meeting here today, Bam asked the executing agencies to hand over completed buildings or created assets along with Detailed Project Report to the user department immediately.

The detailed reports along with photographs of the PM Packages, SPA, NEC, NLCPR etc for the year 2009-10 submitted by the executing agencies were reviewed and found to have successfully completed.

DPO Vijoy Sonam highlighted through Power-Point presentation on minutes of the last meeting and urged for submission of utilization certificates also on SPA Project for 2011-2012.

The drainage system and roads in Seppa town, Seppa–ChayangTajo Road (NEC) etc. have come up for discussion in the meeting. The meeting entrusted EE, PWD, Bameng division to inquire about delay construction of the Seppa–ChayangTajo road executed by Gammon India Ltd. and submit report to DC. DIPRO

 

 

Leadership development training

ITANAGAR, Oct 12: The leadership development training programme of elected office bearers of Booth Level Youth Congress Committee of West Kameng district was held at Bomdila on Wednesday.  More than two hundreds Booth committee members participated during the training programme. The training was jointly conducted by all Assembly Youth Congress of West Kameng district, which was supervised by Lok Sabha Youth Congress general secretary Shilley Sonam, who is also incharge of the district.  The trainers from Jawaharlal Nehru Leadership Institute New Delhi, Dinesh Prasad and Amarjeet Kumar trained the participants.

One-Day Booth Level Youth Congress Training of Bameng, Chayangtajo,  Seppa East, Seppa West and Pakke- Kesang Assembly Constituencies of East Kameng District was conducted on On October 10.

More than 250 booth committee members were trained by three master coaches, namely Rathin Chotopadhya, Rakesh Sharma and Nani Ekka.

The training covered lectures by the master coaches on transformation of Indian Youth Congress, Active Listening, AAKS, Team work, conducting meeting, election preparedness, identifying issues and the action plan.

Attending the closing ceremony, ZPM Chairperson Sipi Bagang stressed on following the ideology and maintaining discipline of Congress party. He also stressed on role of youths at grassroots level and opined that large turnout in training indicates the youths of East Kameng Distt are supporting Congress Party.

Speaking on the occasion, the Gen.secy LYC, I/c East Kameng said that success of the Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress headed by Tadar Niglar as President depends on the activities of booth level Youth Congress Committees and Assembly Youth Congress Committee. He exhorted them to work sincerely for strengthening party organization at grassroots level.

The presidents of Assembly Youth Congress of Seppa East and Bameng also spoke on the occasion.

 

 

DRDA governing body meet held

YINGKIONG, Oct 12:  The 18th Governing Body meeting of Upper Siang District, DRDA for the year 2012-13 was held in the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner, Yingkiong today.

The Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chief Ececutive Officer of DRDA programme in the district,  Liyon Borang in his brief  speech said that the main objective of the DRDA is to eliminate poverty and hunger thereby minimizing the differences, disparity between the rich and poor in the state in particular and the country in general.

Borang advised and asked all the Block Development Officers to discharge their duties and responsibilities to implement the various rural development schemes in impartial and judicious manner.The BDOs being the key officers should execute the works in consultation and cooperation with the local PRI members, the DC said.

In his speech, Zilla Parishad Chairpersoni Dunggoli Libang outlined  the functioning and various activities done by the rural development agency in the district and appealed for cooperation among the officers, staffs and panchayat members to make any development programmes successful.

Mariyang ZPM Dukkang Pertin and Tuting ZPM Mukut Lonchung also participated in the discussion.

Earlier, the Project Director-cum- Member Secretary, DRDA Tamar Murtem explained the purpose of the meeting.

The SAO readout the achievement report of RD programme of the year 2011-12, and later presented the budget proposal under DRDA Admn.

Later, the BDOs of six CD-Blocks  Yingkiong, Mariyang, Jengging, Geku-Katan, Tuting and Singa-Gelling presented the draft AOP for the year 2012-13 which was approved by the house. DIPRO

Bandh declared illegal

ITANAGAR, Oct 12: The Capital Complex district administration today declared the proposed 12 hours bandh called by All Capital Complex Unemployed Youth Association on 17th October as illegal.

Bandh calls cause hardship to common people particularly daily wage earners and it creates serious law and order problem, the administration said adding such bandh calls also force administration to engage more forces which involves huge expenditures. DC capital further clamped 144 CrPC under Capital jurisdiction during bandh hours.

 

CCPDA to launch protest stir

ITANAGAR, Oct 12: The Capital Complex Petroleum Depots Association (CCPDA) has decided to restrict working hours and run the petrol pumps of Capital Complex from 9 am to 5 pm only with effect from Oct 15 till further notice. On usual days petrol pumps remain open from 6 am to 10 pm. This decision is   taken by the CCPDA in support to the demand of the Confederation of India Petroleum Dealers for  hike in dealers’ commission as per the Ministry of Petroleum’s Committee recommendation.

The CCPDA has appealed to all the valued customers to bear with the inconvenience and support the genuine demands.

 

State level Karate-do C’ship  begins today

ITANAGAR, Oct 12: The 18th State Level Karate Karate-Do Championship is beginning at Solung Mopin ground here tomorrow.

Altogether 248 participants, including 23 technical officials from SAI SAG Centre, Naharlagun, Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy, Chimpu and Arunachal Pradesh Police (APP) and 11 districts are participating in the 2-day event.

Sports Authority of Arunachal chairman Tapuk Taku and Director of Sports and Youth Affair DK Dinglow would attend the inaugural function tomorrow at 9 am to encourage the players.

 

Act tough against goons: GPF

ITANAGAR,  Oct 12: The Galo Peoples’ Federation (GPF) today condemned the uncivilized and barbaric ‘attempt on the lives of the employees of Donyi Polo Gas Agency, Gohpur Tinali and  destruction of its office infrastructure Oct 11.

Questioning the law and order in the state Capital, the Federation also expressed surprise over the broad daylight attacks on the seven employees. The state Govt is very much answerable to the present law and order situation, it said adding no effort have been made to control the  ever increasing crimes in the Capital including the infamous “Tongam Rina case” since it was handed over to the CBI.

Not a single security personnel was deployed near the gas agency, the GPF said after visiting the victims and crime site. Denouncing the ‘weak administration and poor policing and governance’, the Federation urged the Govt. to wake up from deep slumber and act tough against the goons. It further demanded compensation of the victims of  unfortunate incident and Gas agency.

 

Flash flood plays havoc

ITANAGAR, Oct 12: The Gram Panchayat Member (GPM) of Jime village under Daring Circle of West Siang district in a release informed that flash flood on October 3 last caused heavy damage to WRC fields of villagers of Jime.

Rodent outbreak has added to the woes of the farmers destroying the remaining paddy crops, the GPM informed adding that landslide triggered by flash flood also damaged water pipelines causing disruption in drinking water supply in the village.

While describing the hardship faced by the people due to drinking water problem, the GPM appealed to the authorities concerned to repair the damaged pipeline at the earliest.

The village set up in 1985 does not have any road connectivity, he added.

 

Union declares East Siang bandh

Arunachal win four medals in National Sub-Jr Taekwondo C’ship

ITANAGAR, Oct 12: Four Taekwondo players of Arunachal Pradesh have brought laurel to the state by winning four medals, including a Gold, in the just concluded 30th National Sub-Junior Taekwondo Championship at K.D. Singh Babu Stadium, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.

Isha Kumari won the Gold in Sub- Junior under 20 kg weight category while Lakpa Gelu bagged a Silver in Sub- Junior 38kg category. Ngansam Hangsik and Goda Ana won a Bronze Medal each in Sub-Junior 35kg and 29kg respectively, informed Arunachal Taekwondo Association Secretary General Tara Tagin.

Traders demand action against assaulter

ITANAGAR, Oct 12: Expressing shock and concern over repeated attack on business community in Hapoli township creating fear psychosis and feeling of insecurity among the businessmen, the Hapoli Bazar Committee and Chamber of Commerce Ziro has gave Lower Subansiri deputy commissioner 12 hours to arrest the culprit, who attacked Raju Chakrabotri on the night of October 11 at Gurudwara Line, Hapoli failing which the HBC and ZCC would continue its democratic movement.

“Despite lodging so many complaints, the administration as well as police department have not taken any effective action till today,” a letter to the deputy commissioner claimed.

It also demanded immediate deployment of adequate security personnel in and around Hapoli Township, sufficient deployment of police personnel during patrolling duty and installation of sufficient street lights at all the venerable areas of the town.

 

BCIF seeks Governor’s intervention

ITANAGAR, Oct 12: Banderdewa Circle Intellectual Forum (BCIF) and its women’s wing have reiterated demand for termination of Naharlagun SDPO for allegedly mercilessly beating a women protestor during the Forum’s October 4 capital complex bandh.

In a memorandum to the Governor, BCIF alleged that one of the women protestors was mercilessly beaten by the Naharlagun SDPO during the bandh and sought the Governor’s intervention for immediate termination of the cop for his alleged illegal act.

They also demanded an apology from OC, Naharlagun for his alleged careless comment against the protestors hurting their sentiment.

While vowing to stick with its original demand for construction of the proposed airfield at Karsingsa, the organizations have threatened to launch vigorous democratic movement if the demands were not met.

 

Farmer–Scientist interaction prog

ITANAGAR, Oct 12: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Upper Subansiri organized a farmer-scientist interaction programme at Riddi village on recently under the sponsorship by Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Daporijo

While interacting with the farmers, the scientists from KVK highlighted about different problems of crops and rodent. Demonstration on nursery bed preparation for winter crops, rodent management and self made rat trap were briefed. The farmers were also educated on how to test soil and collect sample for analysis.

The farmers urged the scientists of the KVK to visit their village again for more information.

ITANAGAR, Oct 12: Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Kherem in collaboration with KVK, Momong, Lohit District conducted a district level training cum interaction programme for farmers at Namgao village of Chongkham circle yesterday.

Project Director ATMA M Chowlu informed about implementation of different agricultural crops and its allied sector in the village.

Dr. PK Mallick Programme Coordinator KVK Lohit trained the farmers on scientific rearing of Pigs and their management. Scientific cultivation of ginger, turmeric, potato and their management practices, vermiscomst etc were thoroughly discussed in the training programme.

61 farmers attended the training and interacted with various resource persons of ATMA and KVK Lohit.

 

Stay at posting places, Association urges Govt officials

ITANAGAR, Oct 12:  Complaints against Govt officials posted at out posts in Arunachal for dereliction of duty is nothing new. Joining the list of complainants All Limeking Youth Welfare Association (ALYWA) today claimed that absence of government officials for a long time from office duty under Limeking circle in Upper Subansiri district has badly affected day-to-day administrative work.  The association said that as the officials do not stay as respective posting place, the villagers have to come to Daporijo miles away from the circle even for a minor administrative work like schedule tribe or PRC certificates. Alleging non-availability of medical staff, the Association further claimed that the villagers are rushing to Daporijo and other places even for treatment of minor ailments like fever. It further said various schools under Limeking are running without teachers as the teachers posted are not maintaining their duty properly.  It appealed to the district administration to issue directives so that the officers stay at their posting places and perform their duty properly.

 

SBI donates school bus to RKM

ITANAGAR, Oct 12: State Bank of India, the country’s largest Bank today extended its corporate social responsibility arm by donating a Tata School Bus to Ramakrishna Mission School, Narottam Nagar for providing transportation facility to the students of the school.

Rajnish Kumar, Chief General Manager, State Bank of India, Local Head Office, North Eastern Circle, handed over the keys of the School Bus to Swami, Gitatmananda, Secretary, of the Mission in presence of Farooque Shahab and Mahendra Aditiya Sahu, General Managers, other senior functionaries and Staff members of the Bank at a function held at the premises of State Bank of India, Local Head office, N.E. Circle, Dispur, Guwahati.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief General Manager said that State Bank of India, the premier Bank of the country has always played a pivotal role as a socially responsive organisation in contributing towards numerous initiatives in social sector. Besides its normal banking activities, it directly extends help by way of donation to benevolent and charitable organisations, schools, hospitals as a part of its Corporate Social Responsibilities.

The CGM appreciated the noble and dedicated service rendered by Ramakrishna Mission by providing education to the underprivileged students of the society. Swami Gitatmananda, Secretary, of the Mission thanked the State Bank authorities for their kind and noble gesture of donating the school bus, which he said would go a long way in providing transportation services to the tribal students who are mostly from poor families and distant places and cannot afford to take any other means of transport due to financial constraints.

 

Artificial flood damages paddy field at Hollongi

ITANAGAR, Oct 12: The artificial flash flood in Hollongi river has submerged the standing crops and damaged properties worth crore of rupees in Hollongi area, claimed Hollongi Nyvgam Youth Association in a release.

Blaming the  T K Engineering, a highway road construction  agency, for such sudden deluge in Hollongi area from Oct 4 to 9, the Association said that the road construction agency was  warned of possible destruction of paddy fields and properties by  sudden flow of water  from  artificial reservoir formed  after earth cutting and  soil filling at regular intervals. Flash flood occurred due to release of water or breach of artificial reservoir, the Association claimed adding more than 20 families were affected by the flash flood.  The Association appealed to both state relief and rehabilitation department and T K Engineering to  visit the Hollongi area and assess the flood damage immediately.

Meanwhile,  former Doimukh MLA  Ngurang Pinch also appealed to the  state Govt to direct the construction agency to compensate the victims of flash flood.

 

Union claimed bandh call successful

ITANAGAR, Oct 12:  In a press statement All Upper Siang District Students Union today claimed that 12 hours bandh called on 8th October last was successful. It also stated that bandh was passed off peacefully without any violence and with overwhelming support from the public. Union was demanding for immediate posting of J/T Teachers at government higher secondary school Yingkiong and four senior teachers to government higher secondary school Jengging. It also demanded for the cancellation of illegal appointment of SSA teachers of the district.

 

AAPSA Students’ Leadership Training Camp begins

ITANAGAR, Oct 12: A three days residential Students’ Leadership Training Camp organised by All Arunachal Private Schools’ Association began at Royal International School, Naharlagun today.

“The main objective of the training is to bring together the leaders of schools under AAPSA and train them to enhance leadership skills which will help them to become committed leaders with integrity and confidence,” according to a release.

More than 100 student leaders of various private schools of in and around Capital Complex are participating in the Training.

The resource persons are Jossy Mathews, SDB (Counsellor, Don Bosco Prenovitiate, Amguri) and Xavier Chirayil, Co-Ordinator of Leadership Training Services, North-East India and a member of the Rotary Club International, Shillong, Kholi George and Grace Pamei.

It is a unique experience for the students to open their minds to a larger world of responsibility, initiative and leadership, the release added.

Green Field airport is not for self profit, it is for every one of us

Dear Editor,

On behalf of Nyishi Youth Welfare Association (NYWA), we would like to state our view against the political interfere going on for the construction of Greenfield airport within the Capital Complex. Why there is always a big problem whenever any development activities take place?

We would like to ask in what interest the Banderduwa Circle Intellectual Forum (BCIF) is acting against the Government for constructing Greenfield Airport at Hollongi. It is a well known fact that Airport Authority of India (AAI) has chosen the Hollongi site by keeping in mind the feasibility report prepared by experts. However we also wonder why government chose the Hollongi site after foundation stone has already been laid at Karshingsa. We are forced to believe that there is political hand behind such decision. But we should not forget that wherever green field airport is constructed it will lead to development of our state. Calling bandh call will not bring solution but will delay the decision making and the real sufferer will be ordinary citizens. The entire situation is happening as everyone is crazy for claiming compensation from the project.

So we on behalf of Nyishi Youth Welfare Association (NYWA) request everyone involved including NGOs, associations, organizations, not to politicised the issue, otherwise it will stop development activities. We are already been fed of these entire disturbance. Green Field airport is not for self profit, but it is for every one of us.

Help the accident victim

Dear Editor,

Through the column of your daily esteem we would like to draw attention to the youth of Arunachal Pradesh, especially these who are living in twin city of capital complex towards burning problem of rash driving. Yesterday we witnessed an accident at Kankar Nallah, Naharlagun. A young boy namely Kirma Lollen, a student of Dera Natung Govt. College, Itanagar was badly injured in motorcycle accident. Even though he was lying injured in road but no one came forwarded to help him. Fortunately we were coming from RGU on our way back to college and saw him lying on road. So, we took the boy immediately to General Hospital Naharlagun and got him admitted. The incident puts big question mark over attitude of our youth.

Why our youths are so careless that they don't give any importance to their life. Every year dozens of youths die in road accident in capital complex alone. The bikers who go for joy ride violating traffic rules become maximum victim of accidents in capital. Our question to those youths, are bike more important than life? We also wonder why parents are buying bikes for their immature children, which often become cause of their own death. The concerned authorities like police personnel and administration officers should take some action in this regard. Our common public has also become very heartless as they pass by without helping accident victim. We should not forget that our small help can save life of a person. Let us change our mind set and help the needy victims of road accidents and at the same time educate our youths to value their valuable life and no to kill it for thrills of biking.

Girls continue to face discrimination

Gender parity in education remains a distant prospect in 54 countries including 16 countries in sub-Saharan Africa as well as Pakistan and India, says the latest Education For All Global Monitoring Report. In China, the most populous country in the world, boys will continue to outnumber girls in secondary schools for many years to come.

Gender equality in education is one of the six goals of the Education For All programme endorsed by 164 governments at the World Education Forum, in Dakar, Senegal, in April 2000. The report measures efforts being made in all parts of the world to enrol more girls in school. In the decade to 2000, the number of girls in primary school increased faster than that of boys, with the global Gender Parity Index (GPI) rising from 0.89 to 0.93. But 57 per cent of the estimated 104 million primary-age children out of school worldwide are girls, which suggests that discrimination remains a pressing problem. Of the 128 countries for which data for the reference year 2000 is available, 52 have already achieved gender parity or will have done so by 2005 at primary and secondary level.

The Report stresses that gender parity does not mean gender equality. It points to those countries, notably in Europe, Latin America and Asia, where, it says, boys’ underachievement in the educational arena has not yet resulted in their falling behind in the economic and political spheres. Women may have to work harder and do better than men, if they are to be successful in competition for jobs, equal pay and decision-making positions.
